Lighting In Style

8. LIGHT IT UP

“A lot of brides automatically think that lighting has to be the colored uplights throughout the room. While that type of look is useful in some cases, soft ambient light, coming from several different sources and areas can also transform a space. Floor and table lamps in lounge areas and bars, pin spots on the centerpieces, uplighting in amber and soft white shades and bistro lights make the room feel less like an event and more like an intimate dinner party.” — Brandi Reiland, creative director and owner, Soiree Weddings & Events

Bride in the Mountains

We’re sharing this vibrant and colorful set to inspire you! This couple made the right decision to have their engagement shoot in Jug Mountain Ranch, Idaho. Just look at the amazing scenery! The lush fields, the brilliant table setup, and the majestic mountains–one just can’t get enough. Sherry, the bride, is of Dutch descent. Her family had fine Delft dinnerware and they used it on the set. It was the perfect addition to the shoot as it brought together all the elements. Her bridesmaids dresses were bought in Etsy and it really brought some pops of color. Their blue dresses styled in different ways is certainly stunning. Go on and enjoy this lovely shoot!

COLORFUL RUSTIC BOHEMIAN FALL WEDDING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Stephanie & Chris’s colorful fall wedding stopped me in my tracks upon first look. So many colors captured by Cimbalik Photography in a variety of pretty pastels, with shades of purple, teal and magenta making a big splash. And do they add that perfect dose of color to the beautiful mountainous fall backdrop and to Stephanie & Chris’s picturesque wedding day. Geodes and wildflowers added to the rustic bohemian ambience, while an all white cake with a mountain scene etched into its four tiers embraces its surroundings in a stunning way.

From the photographer, Cimbalik Photography: This beautiful riverside wedding took place on a pristine fall day in the beautiful, picturesque mountains of McCall, Idaho. The amount of love that was floating around was quite indescribable. There was so much love between Stephanie and Chris as well as everyone’s love for the couple. It was one of those wedding’s that you simply felt honored to have a part in. Stephanie and Chris are such a great couple. They paid so much attention to every detail of their wedding. Kim Carley from Cypress Events did a wonderful job coordinating the event! From the emotional first look on the bridge, to the crazy dancing and divine late night munchies from Horsewood Catering, this wedding was everything you would want your wedding to be. Brimming with love, laughter and fun!

Once upon a time there was a beautiful bride that after many months of planning and stress she finally married her prince charming.    She had originally planned after the wedding  on traveling to far away lands and spending the days on the beach.  She however decided that her treasures would be better spent in the mountains of Idaho.

After searching far and wide the bride settled on a little cottage in McCall, Idaho.  This romantic little cottage was perfect for relaxation and quiet.   It is nestled in the enchanted forest called the Payette National Forest and is close to the magical waters of Payette Lake.

Fresh Spring Event

Sherry Scheline

Idaho has had an incredibly tough winter.  The snow has us dreaming of warmer days and Spring.

When planning an event your choice of colors is really important.  You want to choose colors representative of your own personal style yet contemporary.   Pantone joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity which demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue.

In looking for the perfect dress we saw this stunning Ysa Makano gown and fell in love. The dress being so pink we opted for blue in the bridesmaids gowns.

As components came together we wanted to find blue accents for the bride's beautiful pink.  We came across Dutch dinnerware and brought in some Delft Dutch dinnerware which is accented with little highlights of Serenity along with darker shades of Blue. Delft dinnerware is often passed down generation to generation.  If you have family heirlooms you want to incorporate into your event  it not only adds an element of beauty but personalizes the table scape. This Delft Dinnerware has been in my family for years and it was wonderful to pull it in to this event.

We also used the beauty of our surroundings.  We utilized the beautiful apple blossom in the yard at The Gathering Place as well as mountain sage brush to bring texture to our cake display.  Using natural elements can add beauty to your event that is simply dreamy.

The focus quickly became the bride but our hearts were stolen by Addie and Robbie our flower girl and ring bearer.  They snuck tastes of the cake ran in the fields and told stories all day.  Their joy was irreplaceable.

When planning an event you bring so many things together the important thing is to make sure your photographer captures the magic.  Grab the details and make certain they don't miss the kids.

Sherry Scheline

Happy 2017 BSB Readers! To ring in the New Year, we’re featuring a stunning wintery wedding! Bennett and Jennifer created the perfect winter wonderland in less than three months with the help of their family and friends. I positively love their creative outdoor photos and how Jennifer incorporated family heirlooms into her bridal attire. And how fun are the pinecone fire starters? What a perfect gift for the season and the setting. Enjoy this stunning, snowy wedding! xoxo, Jessica

CASCADE, IDAHO|  PRIVATE RESIDENCE & THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL

What was your budget?

We started wedding planning in October with $10,000 in mind for the budget. However, things start to add up, and we ended up spending closer to $12,000.  Our largest expense was at the Legion Hall for the reception, where we spent over $4000 on the menu, which included Cornish game hens, potatoes, green beans, stuffed mushrooms, and rolls for 200 people.  Also included in that total was beer, wine, and champagne for all, although we had quite a bit of wine left.  Another large expense was the photography (about $1800), which was 100% worth it!

Here’s a breakdown of the rest of the budget:

My bouquet and flowers for boutonnieres (My mother in law and a friend made those) and décor: $200

Cake and cupcakes:$400

DJ: $350

Party favor supplies (we made pine cone fire starters):$50

Chair and tablecloth rental:$300

Décor (electronic candles, batteries, curtain lights for arbor, bottles, vases/lighted sticks:$600

Flower girls/ring bearer attire:$310

Bridesmaids accessories:$420

Groomsmen attire: $780

Groom attire:$550

Bride (Essence of Australia dress, shoes, tights, boots, coat):$1600

How many guests did you have?

We had about 100 guests at the ceremony at Bennett’s parents’ house and 200 guests at the Legion Hall.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

With our rustic winter themed wedding, quite a bit of the décor was free, although it took hours to gather and/or cut to size.  All of the wood for the arbors, the wood rounds for the centerpieces, entryway, dessert table, etc. as well as the pinecones, were gathered on Bennett’s parents’ property or from other places in the area.  We were very fortunate to have so many people help us with these projects!  Also, we each have two nieces, so it was wonderful to dress them as our flower girls, or the Frozen princesses they thought they were!

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

The venue.  Getting married at Bennett’s parent’s house was free!  We would have loved to have the reception there as well, but it just wasn’t possible to fit 200 people in the house.  And while it would be perfect to have a summer outdoor wedding and reception there, we couldn’t obviously make it work during the winter.  We rented the American Legion Hall for only $100 for dinner and the reception, and the group  involved at the Legion Hall catered the meal.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

Enjoy the day!  Everyone told me that the wedding day will fly by, and it’s true!  Keep in mind that if you are organized and prepared, it will be much easier to take time to enjoy each moment.  The makeup, hair, and mimosas, the first look with your partner, the vows, chatting with friends and family…

What was your biggest splurge?

Splurge on photography!!  Why spend all the money on dresses, suits, jackets, décor, etc., if you don’t have someone there to get great photos of them?  I’ve only been married for 6 weeks, and I love going through our wedding photos for the memories already!  Plus, it’s great if your photographers capture little moments that you didn’t realized happened!

What was your favorite detail?

I wore 2 different fur coats for photos outside. One belonged to my grandmother and one belonged to Bennett’s grandmother.  I also wore a pin of the great grandmother’s in my hair.  My engagement/wedding ring was Bennett’s great grandmothers.   I loved having little pieces of history with us that day!

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

The first look!  Standing out there in 30 degrees with my wedding dress, not even cold at all, waiting for my soon to be husband to turn around and see me!

BRITTANY + ERIC: BLACKHAWK ON THE RIVER, IDAHO WEDDING

Sherry Scheline

It's a little chilly today in McCall and it has a thinking about winter weddings.  We love this wedding captured by Cimbalik Photography and shared on Summit Mountain Weddings

BRITTANY + ERIC: BLACKHAWK ON THE RIVER, IDAHO WEDDING

DECEMBER 10, 2015 BY STACY SANCHEZ

IDAHO RIVER WEDDING IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN FOOTHILLS

Today’s mountain love is all about Brittany + Eric: Blackhawk on the River, Idaho Wedding with images courtesy of Cimbalik Photography. We specialize in custom wedding packages for the mountain towns of Colorado, but when this set of images was submitted via Two Bright Lights, I couldn’t pass it up. I have to go through many fabulous images, some of them even urban, and aren’t a good fit. If I see some mountain love that will inspire and spread the possibilities for others to find their perfect mountain setting, then I’m happy to share.

OUTDOOR CEREMONY WITH LUXURY LODGING AND AMENITIES

Blackhawk on the River private residences are described as having been “crafted from local reclaimed timbers, residences feature covered wood porches, indoor and outdoor stone fireplaces, rough-sawn reclaimed floors and exposed timber support beams. Interior spaces are designed in an open concept with spacious dimensions and 20 ft high ceilings.” Now, that sounds amazing.

Blackhawk on the River, a 1551-acre conservation-oriented community. Offering riverfront real estate in McCall, Idaho. I guess I could split my time between Colorado and Idaho. As long as I’m in the mountains! Thanks for stopping by. And, please be sure to contact us to learn more about how we can help you save time and money and plan a custom wedding day that meets all your needs, and especially, your budget.

ALBUM STORY

Where do we begin with this couple! We are pretty sure their hearts are made out of pure gold! Their love for each other and others is inspirational! One of the best things that we love the most about this couple is their ability to embrace life and make incredible memories along the way. For starters, Eric proposed to Brittany under water while they were scuba diving! Talk about a memory that will last a lifetime! Eric did say that he wasn’t brave enough to bring the actual ring under water with him. Can’t blame him there!

Eric and Brittany’s sunny winter wedding was the perfect Valentines Day treat for everyone there. Their day embodied what true love looks like and their ceremony was inspirational and unique on so many levels. The intimate ceremony only for close family, took place outdoors right along the river. They had a quaint hot coco bar set up to help warm up their guests from the inside out. There were also hand warmers and blankets close by for those who need it. Brittany made her entrance on a horse drawn carriage! Brittany loved how this element showed off her deep love for horses. During the ceremony they also had a Unity Fire. Both sets of parents came up and while the individual flames became one they enjoyed a moment basking in the warmth of the fire as well as the warmth of the love in their hearts. After the ceremony everyone went inside and enjoyed a beautiful, rustic reception with all their friends and family! The day was beautiful and the night turn to magic!

McCall Business License

Sherry Scheline

This week on social media rumor began that in order to be a service provider in the McCall area you needed a McCall business license. It quickly escalated and brides were concerned law enforcement was going to show up and shut their wedding down because their DJ did not have a business license.

McCall is a beautiful city and simply adores visitors.  There were some concerns that outside wedding vendors would be limited in the McCall area; this is simply not the case.

First if you are operating a business inside McCall city limits you need a business license.

General Business License
Any person or entity seeking to engage in, prosecute or carry on any trade, business or profession within the limits of McCall must obtain a General Business License from the City Clerk. If you received a down payment for your services you will need to follow the business license in that particular locale.

The following groups do not need a commercial business license, but they do need a specific permit (inquire at City Hall):  Short-term vendors that operate in McCall for a specific event.  Door-to-door salespersons (peddlers).

This term "vendors" is where the city has had to offer interpretation. After speaking with their legal counsel it was decided this does not mean "wedding and event professionals in the service sense."  This new dialogue was created to help the city with crowing number of street vendors and food trucks, etc... at events.  It was not designed to make djs and makeup artist get business licenses so that the City of McCall can make a buck.

A Commercial Business License from the City of McCall is an established component of McCall City Code. It allows the City to protect the health and safety of its citizens by keeping public authorities (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.) informed of the type of business that is conducted and materials that are stored on-site in the event of an emergency. It also allows a method of communication between the City and the local business community.

Quick break down inside the City Limits of McCall if you are a "service" provider you do not need a business license.  If you sell product you do need a business license.  Makeup artists you do not need one to apply makeup but if you sell Younique, Avon, MaryKay or other products you would need one.

All consumable products cakes, flowers, caterer, etc... do NOT need a business license but the delivery of said product is subject to sales tax. Businesses outside McCall that sell goods to customers inside City Limits do not need a business license. However, they do need to collect and remit local sales tax from the sale.

The following groups do not need a commercial business license, but they do need a specific permit (inquire at City Hall):  Short-term vendors that operate in McCall for a specific event. This term "short term vendors" although sounds like many event professionals is not directly referencing "event professionals" as we think of them.  This was designed for food vendors at particular events and service individuals benefitting primarily off of large community events.

Exceptions are rentals. Rentals are not a consumable product not a permanent structure. A business license is required if the rental is within the city limits.  This includes vintage rentals, tables, chairs and dance floors.

A McCall business license is $125 for the first year and $25 a year there after.  The application process is very easy and can be done online.  You do NOT need a McCall address to get a McCall Business license.  If you have questions or are at a loss call Bessi Jo the city clerk.  208-634-7142

You’ve got to love a lakeside wedding; all that fresh air, being outdoors at one with nature and the incredible waterside views, it certainly delivers a wildly romantic setting for saying “I Do”.

The talented team behind today’s styled shoot wanted to set a wedding scene that enhanced, rather than over took, their chosen lakeside lodge location. The beauty of exceptional wedding venues such as these is that they need less dressing and so when it comes to choosing your wedding pretty, be sure that is sympathetic to the surroundings and it will simply add flair to the existing scene without being overpowering.

So here’s Tana Photography to tell you more about this luxurious lakeside lodge wedding theme….

Tana Photography:

“Inspired by an iconic getaway, the Shore Lodge in McCall, Idaho was the perfect background for this photo shoot. Sitting right on the Payette Lake and offering comfortable luxury, exceptional setting and an unbeatable view, this lakeside lodge adds a touch of upscale to any occasion.”

“The bride was styled in a timeless look with a deep rose lip to coordinate with the peonies and roses in her bouquet. We kept her hairstyle smooth and elegant and her dress in a beautiful lace style, with a stunning illusion neckline. The cute ring bearer is also styled in a classic outfit, with a nod to the lakeside feel in his straw fedora.”

“The docks of Shore Lodge are always a favorite photo opportunity- we took ours a step further by taking our couple out into the lake a bit for a gorgeous and hard to beat moment. The getaway – an old, yet touching tugboat filled with gifts – was the perfect finishing touch.”

Romantic, Spring-Inspired Riverside Styled Shoot (Oregon Bride)

Romantic, Spring-Inspired Riverside Styled Shoot

Spring is officially in the air - can you feel it? Okay, so it may still technically be winter, but the unseasonably warm weather has me dreaming of spring and all the lovely colors, florals and inspiration that come with it. This shoot features a quintessentially spring palette of sage, orchid and blush tones, in addition to soft, stunning details like a hand-painted watercolor table runner, a vintage chest of drawers sprilling with spring blooms, and a bride who looks like a real-life little mermaid (who just so happens to be my favorite Disney princess)! I can't get enough.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide more resources to Eastern Oregon brides, many of the vendors featured in this shoot are Idaho-based. However, most are located within 45 minutes of the Oregon border, and creative mastermind behind the whole shoot, Heidi Wight’s event coordination team Ira & Lucy, specializes in Northwest destination weddings.

Keep scrolling to see more of this breath of fresh air—Eastern Oregon brides, take note!

From the coordinator, Heidi Wight, of Ira & Lucy:

"While planning this photo shoot, I was also pregnant with our second son, who to our devastation had been diagnosed early on with a fatal condition. We were told by our doctors that our son would probably live through the full pregnancy, but very quickly would leave us...even maybe mere minutes if he could survive delivery. Planning this photo shoot was both incredibly difficult while juggling the onslaught of grief and the challenges of pregnancy, while also being a lifeline and such a joy and passion. This team of creatives stepped up and were a force of love and passion and the collaboration was incredible! I am so very proud of each of them and all that they contributed and that they trusted in me, even knowing I was struggling so much. Looking back, and the incredible praise and recognition we've received for this shoot fills my heart; as if that love and passion and even grief were poured into all the details.

My desire was to blend the 2014 hues neutral hues of hemlock green and placid blue with pops of radiant orchid and splashes of water color accents. It was important to me to honor the wooded landscape and beautiful flowing rivers that surrounded the area all while creating an achievable, elegant, and personalized feel.

TABLESCAPE: We can't get enough of farm tables as the perfect foundation for a mountain wedding. We hand water colored the table runner and napkin linen ourselves, which was quite the endeavor and so much fun! Vintage plates, flatware, crystal stemware and brass candlesticks adorned the table. I was just ticked to use pewter punch cups and a centerpiece showcasing how antique elements can be such a WOW factor! April, with Open Table Catering, presented a stunning array of cuisine focused on a farm to fork style that we would absolutely suggest for our couples, along with a beautiful signature drink, the Huckleberry Martini.

CEREMONY: My husband and I built the handcrafted mantel and Fallon, the florist behind Flora, perfectly accented the space with draping greenery, pulling out the color palette with eucalyptus, blue hydrangea, and pops of radiant orchid in tulips, peonies, roses and anemones! Gorgeous!

CAKE: Stevi Raff, our cake designer took from our color palette and created a beautiful classic two tiered cake with water color elements, accented with a full peony bloom.

BEAUTY: We were spoiled! Three gowns! The first designed by local designer, Daci. Layers of chiffon and intricate bodice wrapping with a lace edged veil - SWOON! Heartfelt Bridal caused us to fall madly in love with Maggie Sottero, with the "Esme" tulle and beaded gown, as well as the "Sawyer" gown. Our maids, were draped in hemlock green gowns from H&M with blue leather belts - perfection! Behrens Artistry, as always, nailed both hair and makeup for all of our looks! But, nothing wowed us as much as their bold risk with the orchid lip color on our bride! It was stunning!"

ELEGANT LAKESIDE WEDDING IDEAS AT SHORE LODGE on Apple Brides

ELEGANT LAKESIDE WEDDING IDEAS AT SHORE LODGE

We love it when a group of very talented people get together and create something spectacular, and that’s exactly what this Shore Lodge shoot by Tana Photography and Soiree Weddings & Events  demonstrates, awesome people creating something awesome by joining forces! Inspired by the beautiful terrain of the Northwest, this Southern Idaho based team created the ultimate example of elegance at the lake. Be sure to read all about the inspiration, see the full list of contributing vendors and to watch the video by Silverline Films at the bottom of the post.

And now the stunning video by Silverline Films:

“Inspired by an iconic getaway, the Shore Lodge in McCall, Idaho was the perfect background for this photo shoot. Sitting right on the Payette Lake and offering comfortable luxury, exceptional setting and an unbeatable view, this lakeside lodge adds a touch of upscale to any occasion. The first inspiration was to create a look that really went along with the feel of the lodge itself. With floor to ceiling windows opening up to the views of the lake, a rustic rock-wall fireplace and a stately moose, our vision was to work with and enhance the environment rather than outshine the qualities of the room. We’re loving the long dining table trend both for looks and conversation, and ours was filled with a lush garland of flowers, candles, and delicate details spanning the length. The sun setting over the lake is one of the most beautiful and anticipated sights at the lodge, so everything from our invitation suite to the peonies, roses, magnolia leaves and other foliage was reminiscent of sunset colors. A lace overlay topped a gorgeous table linen to create a neutral backdrop to allow the colors of the flowers to be the focal point, and the favor boxes with calligraphy place cards in grey ink kept the look classic and sophisticated. The bride was styled in a timeless look, wearing Bobbi Brown, with a deep rose lip to coordinate with the peonies and roses in her bouquet. We kept her hairstyle smooth and elegant and her dress in a beautiful lace style, with a stunning illusion neckline. The cute ring bearer is also styled in a classic outfit, with a nod to the lakeside feel in his straw fedora. The docks of Shore Lodge are always a favorite photo opportunity- we took ours a step further by taking our couple out into the lake a bit for a gorgeous and hard to beat moment. The getaway- an old, yet touching tug boat filled with gifts- was the perfect finishing touch.”

A Rustic Winter Wonderland Wedding in the Mountains (Kate Aspen)

A Rustic Winter Wonderland Wedding in the Mountains

POSTED ON DECEMBER 15, 2015 BY KATE ASPEN

There’s something wonderfully enchanting about a winter wedding! This beautiful couple kept it simple with an intimate ceremony with close family in December and threw a larger celebration a year a later with a ranch horse inspired wedding reception. From rustic winter touches to one sleek glittery reception dress, take note of these snowy winter wonderland wedding details!

A Snowy Wonderland

A  dazzling blanket of snow on the mountains served as an amazing backdrop for photo ops.

White roses, silver brunia and pine in the groom’s boutonniere and the bride’s bouquet were the perfect complement to the winter theme!

A Rustic Lodge

The Bear Creek Lodge in McCall, ID was a lovely and quaint venue for the occasion.

An Intimate Ceremony

With just 18 of their closest friends and family in attendance, the couple said “I do” inside the lodge.

A Little Sparkle

After the ceremony, the bride changed into a glamorous, shimmery gold number for the reception.

She kept her ensemble comfortable with a pair of warm, furry boots!

Pine Cones and Cranberries

Pine cones, cranberries, and sprigs of pine made wonderful rustic touches to the table decor and wedding cake. Glass ornaments filled with white glitter hung above the table as another pretty wintry detail.

An Ornament Guestbook

Instead of a traditional guestbook, the couple asked guests to write their well wishes on snowflake ornaments.

A Kiss Under the Mistletoe

At the end of the celebration, the happy newlyweds sneaked a kiss under the mistletoe before their grand exit!
