Shawna McElroy’s & Nate Potter’s Wedding
June 27, 2015
Nate and I grew up in Boise and met in high school, so we knew we wanted a Boise wedding. We love Boise and are proud of where we are from, prompting us to select venues that really showcased Boise to our out of town family and friends. We selected the Idaho Botanical Garden for our wedding ceremony as it’s a beautiful location and one of our favorite spots, set at the base of the Boise foothills. I also wanted more of a rustic, shabby-chic setting and this venue was a perfect spot for us to exchange our vows. Our reception was held at the Stueckle Sky Center at Boise State University. The view from the venue shows the Boise downtown skyline and the surrounding mountains and valley. Nate also attended BSU and played football there, so the selection fit perfectly!
Because our wedding was in the summer, we opted to have a fun pop of color with our color palette. We chose a soft peach for the bridesmaid dresses and included this in the flowers and reception décor. Other colors included nude, champagne, and ivory.
My dress was an elegant, beautiful strapless Maggie Sottero gown with intricate ivory lace overlaid on a champagne fabric, fitting the scenery and our color scheme well. The groomsmen wore light gray tuxes with peach ties to match the bridesmaid dresses. Our invitations had a rustic feel and were created by Etsy shop PontoMountainPaper. One of the bridesmaids and one of my best friends is a fabulous calligrapher (and Etsy shop owner of Letters by Linds) and created all of our signage for the reception. Bliss Events provided our gorgeous flowers and most of our fabulous décor and I added a few homemade pieces as well.
Nate and I really wanted to make sure our family and friends had a fabulous time during our special day. This was the first time many had been to Boise and the first time all of our favorite people from both of our lives were going to be together in one place! We utilized Bliss Events for our wedding coordination to allow the two of us (and our parents) to mingle, have fun, and be stress free. I can’t thank them enough for all of their hard work and expertise! The wedding ceremony went off without a hitch and we were honored to have my brother, cousin, and close friend perform a song for us during the ceremony. I had picked the song out about eight years ago when Nate and I started dating and knew I wanted my brother to sing it for us, so I was truly moved.
The reception venue was transformed by Bliss to fit the rustic, shabby-chic theme we were looking for and all of the events flowed flawlessly. My father, our Best Man, and Maid of Honor delivered emotional, heart-warming speeches and we then shared our first dance together as a married couple followed by dances with our parents.
The party really got going after this, thanks to Bliss and our wonderful DJ, Adam Eberle. Our guests stayed until the end, dancing and partying into the night. Tana Photography and Jim Seaney from Foreverlasting Productions captured our wonderful day, allowing us to look back on these memories for years to come. It was the perfect start to our journey together!
